Philip Hazard is the pen name under which V.A. Stuart published a series of nine naval adventure novels set during the Crimean War. The books follow the character Donat Doyle Donaghue (Donat) Donaghue, known as Donat Doyle Donaghue, a naval officer caught up in the conflicts of the 1850s. The series ran from 1965 to 1976 and belongs to the tradition of Patrick O’Brian and C.S. Forester.
Stuart was a prolific author who wrote under multiple pen names across different genres. The Philip Hazard novels represent one of her most focused efforts, nine books following a single character through the naval campaigns of the Crimean War. The books combine historical research with adventure storytelling.
