Peter Turner has written across an unusually wide range of subjects. His earliest published work dates to the late 1970s with Lonely Planet travel guides covering Southeast Asia, Indonesia, and the Pacific. Over nearly five decades, he contributed to more than seventy Lonely Planet titles, from the original Travel Survival Kit editions to the modern guidebook format, covering destinations across Asia, Australia, and the Americas.

Outside travel writing, Turner is the author of Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool, a personal memoir about his time with the Oscar-winning actress Gloria Grahame. The book was published in 1986 and later became a feature film. He also contributed to the Books on series of photography monographs and wrote or edited more than forty entries in the Devils Advocates series, which provides close readings of individual horror and cult films. His work in that series ranges from studies of silent-era horror to analyses of modern genre films.
