Peter Dickinson (1927-2015) was an English author who wrote across multiple genres, from detective fiction to children’s fantasy. He was the first writer to win the Crime Writers Association Gold Dagger in consecutive years, for Skin Deep (1968) and A Pride of Heroes (1969), both featuring Inspector Jimmy Pibble.

His children’s books earned equal recognition. The Changes Trilogy (The Weathermonger, Heartsease, and The Devil’s Children) imagines a Britain that has suddenly rejected all technology. He won the Carnegie Medal for Tulku (1979), the Guardian Prize for The Blue Hawk (1976), and the Whitbread Children’s Book Award. Other notable children’s works include The Kin, The Ropemaker, Eva, and the Tales of Elemental Spirits, co-written with Robin McKinley.

Dickinson’s adult crime novels include the Princess Louise mysteries and standalone works like The Yellow Room Conspiracy and Some Deaths Before Dying. He published over 90 books during his career, writing until shortly before his death in 2015.
