Peter De Jonge is an American writer who has worked as a journalist for The New York Times Magazine, New York magazine, and National Geographic. His writing career split early into two tracks: collaborations with James Patterson that became bestsellers, and solo crime fiction that earned critical praise. His first published novel, Miracle on the 17th Green (1996), was co-written with Patterson and tells the story of a 50-year-old man whose life changes after an extraordinary round of golf on Christmas Day.

De Jonge’s solo debut, Shadows Still Remain (2009), introduced NYPD Detective Darlene O’Hara and was named a Washington Post Best Book of the Year. The follow-up, Buried on Avenue B (2012), continued O’Hara’s story with a cold case that turns into something worse when a child’s body is found in an East Village garden. Both books show De Jonge’s feel for New York City street life and his ability to write a sharp, fast-moving mystery without a co-author’s name on the cover.

His most recent book, Tiger, Tiger (2024), is a biography of Tiger Woods co-written with Patterson. It covers Woods from childhood through his professional career, drawing on interviews with people who knew and worked with the golfer rather than direct access to Woods himself.
