Pete McCarthy (1951-2004) was an Irish-English comedian and travel writer whose McCarthy’s Bar (1999) became a bestselling travel memoir. The book follows his journey through Ireland guided by one simple rule: never pass a bar with your name on it. The result is a funny, warm exploration of Irish culture, identity, and pub life.
His second book, The Road to McCarthy (2002), expanded the journey internationally as he tracked the Irish diaspora and the McCarthy name around the world. McCarthy died in 2004, leaving behind two much-loved travel books.
