Paul Vidich writes espionage novels that have drawn comparisons to the work of Eric Ambler, Graham Greene, and John le Carre. His debut, An Honorable Man, was published in 2016 and introduced CIA officer George Mueller, who is tasked with finding a Soviet mole inside the agency during the 1950s. The sequel, The Good Assassin, sends Mueller to Havana on the eve of the Cuban Revolution.
His standalone novels continue to mine Cold War history. The Coldest Warrior revisits a government scientist’s suspicious death in the 1950s, The Mercenary follows the attempted extraction of a KGB officer from the Soviet Union in the 1980s, and The Matchmaker is set in Berlin as the Wall comes down in 1989. Beirut Station, published in 2023, moves the action to a more contemporary Middle Eastern setting.
His most recent novel, The Poet’s Game, was published in 2025 and follows a spy working to uncover a Russian plot against the American president. Critics have noted the craftsmanship and understated style that runs through all of his work.
