Paul Kemprecos is an American writer of mystery and adventure fiction. He won the Shamus Award for his series of underwater detective novels featuring Aristotle “Soc” Socarides, a diver and private investigator who works cases on and around Cape Cod. Cool Blue Tomb, the first Socarides novel, was published in 1991.
Kemprecos’ career took a major turn when Clive Cussler selected him to co-write the NUMA Files series. Kemprecos created the character Kurt Austin and the NUMA Special Assignments Team for the first book, Serpent (1999), which hit the New York Times bestseller list. Cussler praised Kemprecos as among the best mystery writers in America. Kemprecos co-wrote eight NUMA Files novels before other co-authors continued the series, and he has also written the Matinicus “Matt” Hawkins Adventure novels.
