Morgan Llywelyn was born Sally Snyder in New York in 1937 and had a first career as a competitive horse trainer and dressage instructor before turning to fiction. Her debut novel, The Wind from Hastings, appeared in 1978, and her breakthrough, Lion of Ireland, became a bestseller in 1980. After the deaths of her husband and parents, she moved to Ireland in 1985 and later renounced her U.S. citizenship to become solely an Irish citizen. Her books have sold over forty million copies.

Her Celtic World series covers ancient Irish and Celtic history from The Horse Goddess through Brendan, blending documented events with mythology. The Irish Century novels (1916, 1921, 1949, 1972, 1999) follow Ireland through the twentieth century. She also wrote the Druids duology, the Step by Step post-apocalyptic trilogy, fourteen World Leaders biographies, and numerous standalone novels. The Horse Goddess won Novel of the Year from the National League of American Penwomen.
