Miriam Toews has been writing since the mid-1990s, starting with Summer of My Amazing Luck in 1996. Her novels often deal with family, community, and questions of belonging. A Complicated Kindness, published in 2004, is one of her most recognized titles, and she continued to explore similar territory in The Flying Troutmans and Irma Voth over the following years.
Her more recent work includes Women Talking (2018), which was adapted into a feature film, and Fight Night (2021). She also wrote the non-fiction book Swing Low in 2000. Her newest release, A Truce That Is Not Peace, arrived in 2025. Across ten books, Toews has maintained a reputation for honest, often darkly funny storytelling that draws readers back to her work.
