Michelle Grierson is a Canadian author and arts educator with over 30 years of experience in mainstream and special education classrooms. She is also a dancer, painter, and choreographer. Her debut novel, Becoming Leidah, was published by Simon & Schuster Canada in 2021.
Becoming Leidah is set in nineteenth-century rural Norway and tells the story of Leidah Pietersdatter, a girl born with blue skin and webbed hands and feet. Her mother Maeva works to hide the child from suspicious neighbors while keeping her own magical ancestry a secret. The novel weaves Norse mythology and Celtic myth into a story about identity, ancestral memory, and a shapeshifter who follows the family through the generations.
