Michael Z. Williamson writes military science fiction, with his Freehold series and contributions to the Black Tide Rising universe making up the bulk of his catalog. The Freehold series, which started in 2003, follows a libertarian colony world and the soldiers who defend it, running eleven books through Defiance in 2021. The Black Tide Rising series, a zombie apocalypse saga set largely at sea, has grown to fifteen entries with multiple co-authors contributing alongside John Ringo’s original storyline.

Williamson has also been a regular contributor to the long-running Heroes in Hell shared-world anthology series since the mid-1980s, and he wrote several books in the Posleen War universe. His work outside of series fiction includes the Target: Terror military thrillers, the Temporal Displacement duology, short story collections, and nonfiction. With over 80 published titles, his output covers a wide band of military and speculative fiction.
