Michael Marshall Smith is a British author who has worked in horror, science fiction, and thriller fiction since the early 1990s. His debut novel Only Forward (1994) won the Philip K. Dick Award, and his early science fiction novels Spares and One of Us established him as a distinctive voice in genre fiction. He has won multiple British Fantasy Awards for his short fiction.
Under the name Michael Marshall, he writes thrillers, including the Straw Men trilogy and standalone novels like The Intruders, which was adapted into a BBC America television series. As Michael Rutger, he published the Anomaly Files. His short fiction has been widely anthologized, and he has contributed to major horror anthology series including Best Horror of the Year and The Year’s Best Dark Fantasy and Horror.
