Michael Buckley writes children’s and young adult fiction with a focus on humor and inventive concepts. His Sisters Grimm series, which debuted in 2005 with The Fairy Tale Detectives, puts a modern spin on fairy tales by making the Brothers Grimm real historians whose descendants must now manage a town full of displaced fairy tale characters. The nine-book series was a hit with middle-grade readers and is being adapted for television.

His NERDS series (National Espionage, Rescue, and Defense Society), starting in 2009, follows a group of unpopular middle schoolers who are secretly super-powered spies. Each book features a different team member using abilities derived from their “nerdy” qualities, like braces that can pick locks. The five-book series combines spy fiction with school comedy.

Buckley’s more recent work includes the Undertow trilogy, a young adult science fiction series about an alien invasion off the coast of Coney Island, and the Finniverse series for middle-grade readers about a boy caught up in multiverse adventures. He also created The Weirdies series for younger readers. Before becoming an author, Buckley worked as a writer for television, which shows in the fast pacing and sharp dialogue of his books.
