Melissa M. Martin is a chef and restaurateur from Chauvin, Louisiana, a small fishing town in the bayou. She founded Mosquito Supper Club, a New Orleans restaurant that recreates the communal meals of her childhood with fixed menus of traditional Cajun food. Her cooking draws from generations of family recipes and the foodways of coastal Louisiana.
Her first cookbook, Mosquito Supper Club, came out in 2020 and paired recipes with stories about growing up in the bayou. Her second book, Bayou: Feasting Through the Seasons of a Cajun Life, followed in 2024 and organized dishes around the seasons of a year in southern Louisiana. Both books reflect her approach to food as inseparable from place and memory.
