Melanie McGrath is a British author who writes fiction as M.J. McGrath and non-fiction under her full name. Her Edie Kiglatuk series, set in the Canadian Arctic, features an Inuit woman who solves murders in one of the most remote regions on earth. The four mystery novels were published between 2011 and 2014 and received praise for their vivid Arctic settings.
McGrath’s non-fiction covers a wide range of subjects, from the history of London’s East End in Silvertown and Hopping to cultural reportage in Motel Nirvana and Hard, Soft and Wet. The Long Exile, about Inuit families relocated by the Canadian government, connects to the Arctic themes of her fiction. She has been writing and publishing since 1996.
