Mark Pryor has published 17 books across five series since 2012. His longest-running work is the Hugo Marston series, which follows an American Regional Security Officer in Paris through ten mysteries. The series began with The Bookseller in 2012, where a bouquiniste on the banks of the Seine goes missing, and continued through titles like The Crypt Thief, The Paris Librarian, and The French Widow. Paris is as much a character as Marston himself, with each book set against a different corner of the city.

Pryor’s more recent work is the Inspector Henri Lefort series, historical mysteries set in Nazi-occupied Paris during World War II. Die Around Sundown (2022), The Dark Edge of Night (2023), and A Blood Red Morning (2024) follow a French police inspector solving murders while navigating the moral compromises of life under occupation. He has also written the Hollow Man duology, a psychological thriller series, and a true crime book called As She Lay Sleeping. The Most Mysterious Bookshop in Paris, announced for 2026, marks the start of a new series.
