Marilyn Clay is an Oklahoma-based author who has spent decades writing about the Regency period in English history. She published The Regency Plume, an international newsletter devoted to Regency-era England, for sixteen years. That deep background shows in her fiction, which ranges from traditional Regency romance to cozy mystery.

Clay’s Regency romances began with Bewitching Lord Winterton in 1995, published by Zebra Books. Over the next several years she released six more traditional Regency romances, including Brighton Beauty, Felicity’s Folly, and Miss Darby’s Debut. She later returned to the subgenre with self-published titles like A Pretty Puzzle and The Hyde Park Spectacle. Her Juliette Abbot Regency Mystery series, starting with Murder at Morland Manor in 2016, combines her love of the period with cozy whodunits, following a young woman in service who keeps stumbling into murder investigations.

Beyond her Regency work, Clay has written Colonial American historical suspense novels set in Jamestown and Revolutionary-era America, including Deceptions and Betsy Ross: Accidental Spy. She has also published children’s books, non-fiction reference works on Regency furniture, and a spiritual title. Her non-fiction book A History of The Water Closet shows her willingness to explore unusual corners of history.
