Marie Jakober was a Canadian author who published ten novels over a thirty-five year career, beginning with The Mind Gods of the Future in 1976. Born in Austria, she moved to Canada and wrote primarily about conflict, power, and resistance, whether set in historical periods or imagined futures.
Her historical novels cover a wide range of settings, from the American Civil War in Only Call Us Faithful of the Union Underground to the political upheavals in Sons of Liberty and The Halifax Connection. She also wrote fantasy and science fiction, including High Kamilan and The Black Chalice. The Sandinista series, consisting of Sandinista (1985) and A People In Arms (1988), deals with Central American revolutionary movements. Jakober passed away but left behind a body of work that rewards readers interested in history viewed through a political lens.
