Malala Yousafzai was born in Mingora, Pakistan, in 1997. She became known internationally after being shot by a Taliban gunman in 2012 for speaking out about girls’ right to education. Her memoir, I Am Malala, co-written with Christina Lamb, was published in 2013 and became an international bestseller.
She has since published several books, including adapted versions of her story for younger readers, a picture book called Malala’s Magic Pencil, and We Are Displaced, about refugees and their experiences. She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014.
