Lucy Dillon writes women’s fiction set in the English countryside, with dogs often playing a central role in her stories. Her debut, The Ballroom Class (2008), brought together strangers through a ballroom dancing class, and Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts (2009) introduced the dog-rescue setting that would become one of her trademarks. Walking Back to Happiness (2010), which won the RNA Romantic Novel of the Year Award, follows a widow whose basset hound helps her find a way forward.
Her later novels continue to explore themes of fresh starts, community, and the bonds between people and animals. The Secret of Happy Ever After (2011) is set in a bookshop, A Hundred Pieces of Me (2014) follows a woman rebuilding her life by stripping it down to a hundred meaningful possessions, and Where The Light Gets In (2018) deals with grief and family secrets. Dillon’s books are grounded in realistic emotions and everyday situations rather than high drama, and they often center on women making difficult but necessary changes.
