Liza Marklund is a Swedish journalist turned crime writer who became one of Scandinavia’s most widely read authors. Born in 1962, she worked as a television reporter and editor before publishing The Bomber in 1998. The novel introduced Annika Bengtzon, a crime reporter at a Stockholm tabloid, and launched a series that would span eleven books over nearly two decades.
Marklund’s writing draws heavily on her journalism background, and the Annika Bengtzon novels deal with real-world issues including terrorism, human trafficking, organized crime, and media ethics. Her books have been translated into more than 30 languages and adapted into a series of Swedish films. She also co-owns Piratförlaget, one of Sweden’s largest independent publishing houses.
Outside the Bengtzon series, Marklund co-wrote The Postcard Killers with James Patterson in 2010, a standalone thriller about a pair of serial killers targeting tourists across Europe.
