Laura Zigman is an American novelist who writes comic fiction about women, relationships, and daily life. Her debut novel, Animal Husbandry (1997), follows a woman who develops a theory about male behavior based on animal mating patterns after being dumped. The book was adapted into the 2001 film Someone Like You starring Ashley Judd and Hugh Jackman.
Zigman published three more novels in quick succession: Dating Big Bird (1999), Her (2002), and Piece of Work (2006). After a long gap, she returned with Separation Anxiety (2020), about a woman dealing with her failing marriage by carrying her dog in a sling, and Small World (2023). She has also written one nonfiction book, Get Over Yourself! (2008), a relationship advice guide.
