Laura Taylor Namey is a Cuban American author who writes young adult contemporary fiction. Her debut novel, The Library of Lost Things (2019), established her voice in the YA space with a story about a girl dealing with her mother’s hoarding while finding escape in books. Since then, Namey has published several novels that blend romance with deeper explorations of identity and family.
Her Cuban Girl’s Guide series, beginning with A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow (2020), became her best-known work. The book follows a Miami girl sent to stay with family friends in an English village after a personal loss, and it balances cultural identity with a cross-cultural love story. A British Girl’s Guide to Hurricanes and Heartbreak (2023) continues in the same world. Namey’s standalone novels, including When We Were Them and With Love, Echo Park, further explore young characters figuring out who they are and where they belong.
