Kyla Zhao is a Singaporean-American author who was born and raised in Singapore and graduated from Stanford University with an MA in Communications and a BA in Psychology. She works in Silicon Valley tech by day and has been named a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree. Before fiction, she wrote for Vogue Singapore, Harper’s Bazaar Singapore, and Tatler Singapore, landing her first magazine byline at age 16.
Her debut novel The Fraud Squad (2023) draws on her knowledge of Singapore’s social scene. Valley Verified (2024) mines her tech industry experience for a story about a fashion writer who jumps into Silicon Valley. Heirs of Infamy (2026) marks her move into YA fiction with a heist story set in 1940s San Francisco Chinatown. She has also written a middle grade novel, May the Best Player Win (2024), about competitive chess.
