Kevin G. Summers grew up in northern Virginia, where his mother brought him along to her master-level writing classes at George Mason University. Sitting in on lectures by writers like John Irving and John Gardner left a mark. He went on to teach writing at colleges and libraries in the region and lives in Amissville, Virginia.

He came to publishing through the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds contest, which Pocket Books ran annually for amateur writers. His story “Isolation Ward 4,” set within the events of the Deep Space Nine episode “Shadows and Symbols,” won Third Prize in 2001 and appeared on the Nebula Awards preliminary ballot. He later had further stories published in the anthology series and in a Deep Space Nine tie-in collection.

Outside of Star Trek, Summers writes across a wide range of speculative fiction. He co-wrote the Legendarium novels with Michael Bunker, published historical non-fiction about George Washington’s sword in American Excalibur, and has been a regular contributor to the dark science fiction magazine Tales from the Canyons of the Damned since its launch in 2015. His alternate history novel The Man Who Shot John Wilkes Booth, which follows a small-town newspaper editor who uncovers a massive conspiracy 23 years after Lincoln’s assassination, is available as both a serialized ebook and a collected edition.
