Katherine V. Forrest is a Canadian-born American author who has been writing fiction since the early 1980s. Her debut novel Curious Wine, published in 1983, became one of the most widely read lesbian romance novels of its era. She followed it with the Kate Delafield mystery series, which began with Amateur City in 1984 and ran for ten books through 2022. The series features an LAPD homicide detective and was among the very first mystery series to center a lesbian protagonist.

Forrest also wrote the Daughters of a Coral Dawn trilogy, a science fiction saga about a group of women who establish their own civilization on a distant planet. The first book appeared in 1984, with the sequels following in 2002 and 2005. As an editor, she worked at Naiad Press and later at Spinsters Ink, where she helped shape the careers of many lesbian fiction writers. Her edited anthologies range from erotica to mystery to holiday-themed collections, and she has won multiple Lambda Literary Awards for her contributions to LGBTQ literature.
