Karin Brynard is one of South Africa’s most successful crime writers. Before turning to fiction, she worked as a political and investigative journalist, a background that shapes the detailed and atmospheric quality of her novels.
Her Inspector Beeslaar series is set in the isolated farming communities of the Northern Cape, at the edge of the Kalahari Desert. Weeping Waters (2009), the first book in the series, won the University of Johannesburg Debut Prize in 2012 and has been compared to the work of Stieg Larsson. Brynard writes in Afrikaans, with her books translated into English and other languages.
