Karen Ann Hopkins grew up near Lake Ontario in upstate New York and fell in love with horses at the age of five. She eventually settled on a farm in northern Kentucky, where she lives with her family and a wide assortment of animals, from horses and goats to peacocks and rabbits. Her proximity to a local Amish community inspired her debut novel, Temptation, which launched a five-book YA romance series about a forbidden relationship between an English girl and an Amish boy. That same real-world experience with Amish culture later fed into her biggest body of work, the Serenity’s Plain Secrets mystery series.

Hopkins has written 41 books across six series since 2012. Her Serenity’s Plain Secrets series, which follows Sheriff Serenity Adams as she solves crimes in the fictional Amish settlement of Blood Rock, Indiana, has grown to 21 books. She also writes the Possum Gap series, a gritty crime fiction saga set in the Kentucky Appalachian mountains featuring Sheriff Sadie Mills. Her Crossroads series is a romantic companion to the Serenity books, and The Wings of War is a YA paranormal fantasy about a young woman who discovers she is descended from angels. Before writing full-time, Hopkins worked as a paralegal, guided horseback tours in the Smoky Mountains, and coached a youth equestrian drill team.
