Kevin Ashman was born and raised in South Wales and spent years working full time before self-publishing his first historical fiction in 2011. His early books found readers quickly, and by 2014 his success allowed him to write full time. He has since been published by major UK companies while also continuing to release self-published work, and his catalogue has grown to more than 30 novels. He lives in South Wales with his wife and is the father of four adult children.
Ashman’s focus is almost entirely on British and European history, with an emphasis on periods defined by conquest and resistance. His Roman Chronicles trilogy covers Rome’s invasion of Britain through the rebellions of Caratacus and Boudicca. His Blood of Kings series moves to 12th-century Wales and the Norman occupation, following Gruffydd ap Cynan’s fight to reclaim the kingdom of Gwynedd. The Road to Hastings trilogy centres on Harold Godwinson in the years leading up to 1066. His most ambitious ongoing projects are the Dark Eagle series — small, covert Roman units operating behind enemy lines — and Seeds of Empire, which follows Julius Caesar’s rise from 100 BC. The Brotherhood series covers the Knights Templar across the 12th-century Crusades.
Outside his military historical fiction, Ashman has written the India Summers Mysteries, a conspiracy-thriller series featuring a librarian and a special forces investigator uncovering secrets from Rome, the Ottoman Empire, and World War II. He has also written the Other-world Collection, which crosses into science fiction, dystopia, and horror. Across all his work, his writing is noted for its fast pace, grounded historical research, and accessible prose that makes complex periods easy to follow.
