Joshua Whitehead is an Oji-Cree/nehiyaw Two-Spirit writer from Peguis First Nation in Manitoba. His debut poetry collection full-metal indigiqueer came out in 2017, followed by the novel Jonny Appleseed in 2018, which was longlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize.
Whitehead’s later work has moved into essays and non-fiction. Making Love with the Land (2022) collects personal essays, while Indigiqueerness (2023) explores Indigenous and queer identity. His writing draws from his Two-Spirit identity and life on the reserve.
