Joshua Hood is a military thriller author whose combat experience gives his fiction an unusual level of authenticity. He graduated from the University of Memphis before enlisting in the Army, where he spent five years in the 82nd Airborne Division. As a team leader in the 3-504 Parachute Infantry Regiment, he deployed to Iraq in 2005 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. He later served as a squad leader in the 1-508th Parachute Infantry Regiment during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan from 2007 to 2008.
Hood published his debut novel, Clear by Fire, in 2015, launching the Search and Destroy series. The book drew directly from his combat deployments and established him as a new voice in the military thriller genre. Warning Order followed in 2016. His profile rose significantly when he was chosen to write the Treadstone series, set in Robert Ludlum’s Bourne universe. The Treadstone Resurrection (2020) introduced operative Adam Hayes, and the series now includes four novels through The Treadstone Rendition in 2023.
Hood has also written standalone thrillers including The Guardian (2023) and Burn Out (2024). His books move fast and lean heavily on tactical detail, gunfights, and covert operations. Readers who enjoy Brad Thor or Vince Flynn will find familiar territory in Hood’s work, grounded by the kind of firsthand knowledge that only comes from having been in the fight.
