Jonathan Carroll has been writing genre-defying fiction since 1980, when his debut novel The Land of Laughs introduced readers to his particular brand of magical realism. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he has produced novels, short stories, and novellas that resist easy classification, mixing elements of fantasy, horror, and literary fiction into something entirely his own.

His best-known works include the Rondua / Answered Prayers sequence, which begins with Bones of the Moon, and the Crane’s View trilogy starting with Kissing the Beehive. Carroll has won the World Fantasy Award and been nominated for numerous other honors. He lived in Vienna, Austria for many years, and the European settings and sensibilities of his adopted home often find their way into his fiction.

Beyond his novels, Carroll has contributed short fiction to dozens of anthologies and collections. His stories tend to focus on characters whose comfortable lives are disrupted by strange and often unsettling intrusions of the impossible, forcing them to confront truths they had been avoiding.
