Jody Lynn Nye is an American science fiction and fantasy author from Chicago, Illinois. She studied Communications and English at Loyola University of Chicago and worked on the technical operations staff of a local television station before turning to writing full time. Her first published fiction appeared in the late 1980s, and she has been writing steadily for nearly four decades since.

Nye is probably best known for her collaborative work. She co-wrote several novels with Anne McCaffrey, including The Death of Sleep, Crisis on Doona, Treaty at Doona, and The Ship Who Won. She also wrote The Dragonlover’s Guide to Pern, a companion reference to McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern world. Beginning in 2003, she partnered with Robert Asprin on his Myth Adventures series and wrote seven books with him before his death in 2008. She has continued both the Myth Adventures series and Asprin’s Dragons (Griffen McCandles) series on her own.

Her original series include the Mythology books (starting with Mythology 101), the Dreamland series, Taylor’s Ark, and the Imperium military science fiction series. She has also contributed to shared universes like Ring of Fire, Four Horsemen Tales, and Thieves’ World. Beyond fiction, Nye has served as a judge for the L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future contest since 2016 and became its Coordinating Judge in 2022. She lives in the suburbs of Atlanta with her husband, writer and game designer Bill Fawcett.
