Jo Furniss writes thrillers. All the Little Children (2017), her debut, follows a mother fighting to keep a group of children alive after a catastrophe. The Trailing Spouse (2018) and The Last to Know (2020) shift to domestic suspense. Dead Mile (2024) is her most recent novel.
The Trailing Spouse is set in Singapore and follows an expat wife who discovers dark secrets about her husband’s past. The Last to Know deals with a woman whose perfect life starts to crack when someone close to her goes missing. Both books use domestic settings as the backdrop for mounting tension.
Furniss is a British author and former BBC journalist who has lived in several countries. That international background shows up in her fiction, which is often set outside the UK. Her books tend to put ordinary women in situations where they must rely on their own resourcefulness to survive. Dead Mile (2024) is set during a traffic jam on a bridge that turns sinister.
