Jillian Tamaki is a Canadian cartoonist and illustrator whose work ranges from graphic novels to picture books. She first gained attention for her illustration work on Skim (2008) and This One Summer (2014), both written by her cousin Mariko Tamaki. SuperMutant Magic Academy, originally a webcomic, was collected into a book in 2015 and became one of the most talked-about graphic novels of that year.
Her solo work includes Boundless (2017), a collection of short comics that experiments with form and storytelling, and They Say Blue (2018), a picture book for young children. Our Little Kitchen (2020) continues her picture book work, and Roaming (2023) is her most recent graphic novel, a story about three friends traveling in New York City. Her style moves between the surreal and the grounded, with a loose, expressive line that sets her apart from more polished commercial illustration.
