Jason Rekulak is an American author and former publisher at Quirk Books, the independent Philadelphia press behind hits like William Shakespeare’s Star Wars. Over 18 years at Quirk, he developed the Pop Classics series of illustrated children’s storybooks that retell beloved movies and TV shows, including Home Alone, Back to the Future, and The X-Files.
Rekulak’s debut novel, The Impossible Fortress (2017), is a coming-of-age story set in 1987 about a teenager, a computer programming contest, and the quest for a stolen Playboy magazine. The book was translated into 12 languages and became a finalist for the Edgar Award. His second novel, Hidden Pictures (2022), is a supernatural thriller about a young nanny named Mallory Quinn whose five-year-old charge begins producing disturbingly realistic sketches that seem to depict scenes from an unsolved crime. It became a New York Times bestseller and won the Goodreads Choice Award for Horror.
His third novel, The Last One at the Wedding (2024), follows a father invited to his estranged daughter’s wedding in New Hampshire, where he uncovers troubling secrets about the groom’s wealthy family.
