Jane Harper is an award-winning crime writer known for atmospheric thrillers set in rural Australia. Born in Manchester, England in 1980, she moved to Australia as a child and worked as a journalist for over a decade before turning to fiction. Her debut novel The Dry became an international bestseller and established her as one of the leading voices in Australian crime fiction.
Harper’s novels explore isolated communities - drought-stricken farming towns, remote cattle stations, and coastal villages - where secrets fester and landscapes can be as dangerous as any criminal. Her journalism background shows in the meticulous plotting and vivid sense of place that characterize her work. Each book examines how economic pressure, family history, and the harsh Australian environment shape the people who live in these communities.
She has won numerous awards including the British Crime Writers’ Association Gold Dagger, the Australian Book Industry Awards Book of the Year, and multiple Ned Kelly Awards for Australian crime writing. Two of her novels, The Dry and Force of Nature, have been adapted into films starring Eric Bana.
