James Grady burst onto the literary scene in 1974 with Six Days of the Condor, written when he was just 25 years old. The novel about a low-level CIA researcher who returns from lunch to find his entire office murdered became an instant classic of the spy thriller genre. Its film adaptation the following year, with Robert Redford in the lead role, cemented Grady’s place in American thriller fiction.

Beyond the Condor series, Grady has written across a broad range of crime and thriller fiction. His standalone novels and short fiction draw on his background as an investigative journalist in Washington, D.C., giving his work a gritty authenticity rooted in real political power structures. He has also contributed to numerous anthologies and collaborative projects throughout his career.

Grady’s journalism career has included work as a muckraking reporter in Montana and as a Senate aide on Capitol Hill. That firsthand experience with how government actually operates gives his fiction an insider’s edge that few thriller writers can match.
