James Francis Dwyer (1874-1952) was an Australian-born writer who became one of the first Australian authors to achieve commercial success in the American literary market. He moved to the United States in the early 1900s and published adventure novels and short stories in magazines like The Saturday Evening Post, Argosy, and Adventure.
His novels are set in exotic and often dangerous locations, from South Pacific islands (The White Waterfall, 1912) to jungle settings (Breath of the Jungle, 1915; The Spotted Panther, 1913). His later works, including Cold Eyes (1934) and The City of Cobras (1938), continued the adventure formula that defined his career.
