J.A. Kerley is an American crime fiction author best known for the Carson Ryder series, which began with The Hundredth Man in 2004. The series follows a Mobile, Alabama detective who handles cases involving psychologically extreme criminals. Kerley has also published under the name Jack Kerley.
The Carson Ryder books span thirteen novels published between 2004 and 2017. Kerley’s writing is rooted in Southern settings and features a protagonist whose own family history with mental illness gives him both insight into and vulnerability around the criminals he investigates.
