Hugh Laurie is best known around the world as the star of House M.D., but he has a separate life as a writer. In the early 1990s, he and Stephen Fry published a series of sketch comedy books tied to their BBC television show A Bit of Fry and Laurie. The four volumes collect the scripts and sketches that made the duo famous in British comedy.
In 1996, Laurie published The Gun Seller, a comic thriller about a former soldier who stumbles into an arms-dealing conspiracy. The novel’s sharp wit and self-aware humor earned it strong sales and positive reviews. Laurie has spoken about a sequel called The Paper Soldier, though it has yet to appear.
Beyond fiction, Laurie has released companion books to his blues music albums Let Them Talk (2011) and Didn’t It Rain (2013). These non-fiction works reflect his deep love of New Orleans blues and roots music, a passion he has pursued alongside his acting career.
