Hillary Greene is the pen name used for a popular British crime fiction series featuring Detective Inspector Hillary Greene of the Thames Valley Police. The series launched in 2004 with Murder on the Oxford Canal (also titled A Narrow Escape) and has grown to over twenty books.
The novels are set in and around Oxford and the surrounding countryside, with DI Greene investigating murders while navigating office politics and her own personal life. Many of the earlier books carry dual titles: a “Murder” title and a “Narrow” title (such as Murder at the University / On the Straight and Narrow), reflecting different publishing editions.
After a brief hiatus following A Narrow Trajectory (2018), the series returned with Hillary’s Back! (2020) and has continued with new entries into the 2020s, showing the enduring appeal of the character.
