Hannah Richell writes literary suspense novels where the setting is as important as the characters. Her debut, The House of Tides (2012, also published as Secrets of the Tides), is set on the English coast and deals with a family returning to a house haunted by tragedy. The Shadow Year (2013) follows a group of friends who attempt to live off the land in a remote English cottage, while The Peacock Summer (2018) centers on a crumbling estate and the secrets hidden within its walls.
After moving to Australia, Richell’s fiction shifted to Australian landscapes. The River Home (2020) is set along a drought-stricken river, and The Search Party (2024) brings a group of people together in a tense situation in the Australian bush. One Dark Night (2025) continues her pattern of placing ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances within vivid natural settings.
