Hank Green is known for many things: co-founding the Vlogbrothers YouTube channel, creating SciShow and Complexly, and building online education platforms. His fiction career began with An Absolutely Remarkable Thing (2018), a novel about a young woman who becomes famous overnight after discovering a mysterious alien sculpture in New York City.
The sequel, A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor (2020), continues the story with a wider scope and more complex exploration of fame, technology, and power. Together, the two novels form the Carls duology, named after the alien structures at the center of the plot. Green also contributed to From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back (2020), a Star Wars anthology.
Green’s writing draws on his deep familiarity with internet culture and online communities. The Carls books feel like the work of someone who has spent years thinking about how viral fame changes people and how technology mediates human connection.
