Guy Johnson, son of Maya Angelou, wrote fiction centered on Black American family stories that span generations. His Tremain Family Saga begins with Standing at the Scratch Line (1998), which follows a Black soldier in early twentieth-century America through World War I and the Harlem Renaissance. Echoes of a Distant Summer (2002) continues the family story into later decades.
Johnson’s second series, the Tremayne Family Romance/Nemesis Files, takes a different approach with shorter romantic suspense novels. His five books, published between 1998 and 2016, share a focus on family bonds tested by conflict and circumstance.
