Gabbie Stroud spent years as a primary school teacher in Australia before turning to writing. Her first book, Teacher (2018), is a frank account of life inside the education system and the burnout that drove her out of the classroom. It struck a nerve with teachers across Australia and sparked conversations about workload and wellbeing in schools.
She followed up with Dear Parents: Letters from the Teacher (2020), which continued her honest look at the relationship between schools and families. Her fiction debut, The Things That Matter Most (2023), draws on the same themes of motherhood and the juggle of modern life, but wraps them in a novel rather than memoir. Stroud writes with warmth and directness, and her work has a particular appeal for anyone who has worked in or around schools.
