G.A. Henty was an extraordinarily prolific writer whose massive catalog spans over a hundred titles. The bulk of his work consists of standalone novels, many of them historical adventures with titles that read like a tour of world history: With Clive in India, Under Drake’s Flag, In the Reign of Terror, With Lee in Virginia, Beric the Briton, and dozens more. His books cover conflicts and periods from ancient Carthage to the Boer War, and the recurring pattern of young protagonists placed in famous historical settings made him one of the best-known writers of adventure fiction for young readers.
