Faridah Abike-Iyimide made a strong entrance into young adult fiction with Ace of Spades in 2021, a thriller set at a private school where two Black students are targeted by an anonymous tormentor. The book drew comparisons to Gossip Girl and Get Out, mixing campus drama with real horror, and quickly built a large readership.
Since then she has published several more novels, including Where Sleeping Girls Lie, Four Eids and a Funeral, and The Doomsday Date, with The Heirs expected in 2026. Her books explore questions of race, identity, class, and belonging, mostly set in schools or communities where her characters have to navigate being outsiders. She also contributed to the anthology Origin Stories in 2022.
