Erin Gough is an Australian author who writes YA fiction with queer protagonists and a sharp sense of humor. Her debut novel, Get It Together, Delilah! (2015), published internationally as The Flywheel, is a coming-of-age romance about a teenage girl juggling her father’s cafe, school pressures, and her feelings for another girl. The book was praised for its warmth and for treating its queer love story as something joyful rather than tragic.
Her second novel, Amelia Westlake Was Never Here (2018), follows two very different girls at an elite school who team up to create a fictional student activist, using the invented persona to challenge the school’s institutional problems. Gough has also contributed to The Best Australian Stories anthologies in 2012 and 2013, placing her short fiction alongside some of Australia’s most recognized writers.
