The Naughtiest Girl series was created by Enid Blyton, one of the most widely read children’s authors of the twentieth century. Blyton wrote the original books starting in 1940, setting the stories at Whyteleafe School, a boarding school where the children govern themselves through weekly meetings. The main character, Elizabeth Allen, arrives determined to be so badly behaved that she gets sent home, but she gradually comes to love the school and its unusual approach.
Anne Digby took over the series in 1999 and wrote four additional books. Digby kept the Whyteleafe setting and the self-governing school system intact, continuing Elizabeth’s story with new problems and friendships. Together, the twelve books span decades of publication but share the same warmth, humor, and themes of growing up that have kept young readers returning to the series.
